Marketing power, TV-talk shows and their meaning (“Glamor of Misery”), postmodern audiences, book clubs and their agenda-setting function, self-styled success of a “Horatio Alger 21st century style”, add to that race and gender – “the empress of chat”, Oprah Winfrey, has become an iridiscent phenomenon in American (popular) life and culture – and politics.
Taking her example as a stepping stone, members from all disciplines involved in the Master American Studies in Bonn illustrated the ingenious multifacetedness of American Studies as a transdisciplinary endeavor and provide information on the program.
