Call for Papers: 18. Studientag zum Englischen Mittelalter SEM XVIII

The University of Bonn is pleased to announce the 18. Studientag zum Englischen Mittelalter (SEM XVIII) to be held in Bonn from March 3, 2016 to March 5, 2016.

The SEM offers PhD students, postdocs, and advanced MA and Lehramt students working in the field of English Medieval Studies the opportunity to present their research to peers and advanced scholars. Following the tradition of previous SEM meetings, we invite abstracts on any topic related to the English Middle Ages. We warmly encourage submissions from junior scholars working in history, religious studies, art history as well as in literature and linguistics. Papers of fifteen pages maximum will be made available to all participants to be read before the conference and will be presented individually by senior scholars, who will summarize them and provide critical feedback and questions for the plenary discussion. Younger scholars can thus benefit from the expertise of senior scholars and from having their projects discussed in a friendly atmosphere.

In order to facilitate networking and scholarly exchange, we have planned a number of ancillary events, starting with a reception on the evening of Thursday, March 3, and ending with an optional trip to the twelfth-century Doppelkirche Schwarzrheindorf on Saturday, March 5.

A submission and registration form is available on the conference website (URL below) for anyone wishing to submit their work, to be a discussant, or simply to attend. Please fill it out and send it as an email attachment to [Email protection active, please enable JavaScript.]. If you are submitting an abstract, you can copy this into the registration form. The submission deadline for abstracts is December 15, 2015. We will notify you of acceptance by early January, and ask you to submit your full paper as a Word or pdf file by January 31, 2016. The general registration deadline for all participants is February 15, 2016. The registration fee will be 25€ (15€ for unsalaried students) to be paid upon arrival at the conference.

We look forward to welcoming you in Bonn next spring!
