How does the Internet impact academic communication and information seeking behaviour?
(Vortrag in englischer Sprache)

How do scholars communicate and how is academic information sought with the help of the Internet? Is the issue of plagiarism and authorship avoided or supported by the use of the Internet? In how far are hyperlinks relevant for finding suitable information in the web? These and many more questions are analysed in the German-Bulgarian research project “Academic Communication in Multimedia Environment”, founded by the Humboldt Foundation. The aim is to identify current trends in information seeking behaviour and features of today’s scientific communication in multimedia settings. This presentation introduces the project and reports on first results from a pilot study based on questionnairs and an experiment employing the screen-capturing software program Camtasia. The presentation closes with an outlook on the experiments to follow in the framework of this project.
