The Department of English, American and Celtic Studies is looking for a permanent position as of 01.10.2025

Research Employee (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) (100%)

The transdisciplinary North American Studies program at the Institute of English, American and Celtic Studies at
the University of Bonn is dedicated to teaching and research about the USA and Canada as cultural, political and
economic systems. It offers the MA program North American Studies, cooperates with other disciplines in the BA
English Studies and BA of Education English, and regularly organizes extracurricular events such as a lecture series,
panel discussions, and symposia.

Your responsibilities:

  • Teaching with a focus on fundamentals and methods of economics, as well as various
    areas of economics, including the economic history and economic development
    and policy of North America (USA and Canada) (BA and MA level) (8 semester periods
    per week (SWS)),
  • Examination procedures in all the above-mentioned degree programs,
  • Research activities,
  • Cooperation in transdisciplinary projects of the North American Studies program,
  • Responsibility for administrative tasks within the NAS.

Your qualifications: 

  • A university degree with a doctorate and further publications (ideally equivalent
    to German Habilitation) in economics or a related discipline,
  • Teaching experience in the fundamentals of micro- and macroeconomics as well
    in other areas of study within the field of economics,
  • Expertise in the economic history and economic development and policy of North
    America (USA and Canada) and in current transdisciplinary research questions and
    methodological discussions,
  • Experience in transdisciplinary teaching and research collaborations,
  • Very good written and spoken English skills (the language of instruction for the degree
    programs is English),
  • International collaborative networks.
