Welcome

Welcome to Fachdidaktik Englisch - The Teaching of English as a Foreign Language

The section of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) was launched in the summer term 2013 and has ever since provided students with courses and insights preparing them for the broad spectrum of teaching professions. Amongst those particularly the teaching of (foreign) languages and teaching (anglophone) literatures and cultures as well as working with a diversity of media.

The Praxissemester is both prepared and accompanied on the basis of a close collaboration with other institutions (BZL, ZfsL and professors of other subject-specific teaching areas) and in-school teacher training: It’s all about bridging theory and practice. Put simply, students take their theoretical background to the schools of the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg area and test it against their observations, experiences, reflections and insights in the classroom.

Besides instructive aspects of Teaching English as a Foreign Language, the section also conducts active, interdisciplinary and international research and furthermore provides future teachers with comprehensive workshops and lecture series (Current Issues in the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language).
